about
This tune, entitled Der Parom, was first documented in 1907 but was only recently uncovered in the wartime notes of ethnomusicologist Moisei Beregovski, which he recorded in 1946. "Der parom" translates to "the ferry." The sketches seem to suggest the piece was intended for choir, and I'm honoured to be the first to play from them.
This was part of the Beregovski project in which I've been looking at a folder of ethnomusicologist Moisei Beregovski's musical notes and "completing" them for cello ensemble. This project was commissioned by Prof. Anna Shternshis and the University of Toronto as a segment of the Yiddish Glory project.
